May 6, 2021 No. 6 Softball Heads to Pittsburgh for the Final Weekend of the Regular Season
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. The sixth-ranked Florida State softball team (36-8-1) goes to Pittsburgh (16-27) this weekend for the final weekend of the regular season. Florida State leads the all-time series against the Panthers, 18-1. The last time the two teams met was in 2018 when the Seminoles and Panthers met four times. FSU took two of three in the regular-season series before defeating Pitt 5-4 in the 2018 ACC Championship game. Anna Shelnutt hit a walk-off three-run home run in that game.
The Seminoles and Panthers are scheduled to play one game Friday, May 7 at 6 pm, a doubleheader on Saturday, May 8 starting at 1 pm and one game on Sunday, May 9 at 12 pm. All four games this weekend will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
Kathryn Sandercock picked up her 20
th win of the season after pitching the final three innings. She struck out four and only allowed one hit and no walks.
Caylan Arnold started the game and pitched four innings for the Noles. She allowed three hits and one run with four strikeouts of her own.
Florida State scored in the first inning for the second time this weekend to take an early 1-0 lead. Sydney Sherrill walked with one out and then advanced to second after a Kalei Harding single to the shortstop. Cassidy Davis then hit her second double of the weekend and third extra-base hit to score Sherrill.
NC State 1, No. 6 Florida State 6
Kathryn Sandercock started for the Seminoles and earned her 19
th win of the season as she pitched 6.1 innings, allowing just three hits and one unearned run.
Emma Wilson entered to pitch for Florida State in the top of the sixth with one out. She allowed just one hit.
The Florida State offense was led by extra-base hits as the Seminoles recorded four doubles and a triple. Cassidy Davis scored two runs on two extra-base hits, a double and a triple.
NC State took an early 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning. An error and a pair of singles scored Tatyana Forbes for the Wolfpack. That ended up being NC State’s only run during game one.
April 25, 2021 No. 7 Seminoles Shut Out Louisville Sunday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. The No. 7 Florida State softball team (33-7-1, 21-3-1 ACC) won its first game Sunday at Louisville (17-23-1, 11-17-1) before the teams tied game two. The Seminoles earned a run-rule, 9-0 win in five innings in game one, and the teams played 11 scoreless innings in game two.
The second game of the doubleheader ended in a tie when it was halted after 11 innings. The game was stopped due to the pre-determined stop time because of Florida State’s return flight.
Game 1 – No. 7 Florida State 9, Louisville 0 (5 Innings)
Florida State used a four-run second inning to take an early lead and a five-run fourth inning to put the run-rule into play in game one.

The final pitch of the day was inside on Toni Martin’s hands. She fought it off, and could only muster a soft popout to Florida State second baseman Devyn Flaherty. It was the last out of a sweep at the hands of the No. 9 Seminoles, who outscored Syracuse 16-3 over two games on Saturday. FSU (29-6, 16-2 Atlantic Coast) took the first game at Skytop Stadium, 7-3, behind six home runs, and capped off the afternoon with a 9-0 win. The Orange (15-13, 8-10) registered just two hits in the second game, and have scored just seven runs over their past four games all losses.
