San Joaquin County to remain in red tier for at least two more weeks

San Joaquin County will remain in the red tier of California s color-coded COVID-19 reopening blueprint for the sixth week in a row despite decreases in positivity and confirmed case rates. The county is among 10 of California s 58 counties that remain in the red and have not been able to see coronavirus restrictions further loosened as case rates continue to fall across the state. San Joaquin County Public Health Officer Maggie Park told the Board of Supervisors Tuesday that, while newly confirmed cases continue to drop, the county s numbers have not lowered enough to move into a less-restrictive tier. The county previously spent months in the purple tier, the state s most restrictive COVID-19 classification, following a post-holiday surge in December that threatened to overwhelm hospitals.

Stockton City Council meeting: Here s what to watch for this week

Stockton City Council discussions at its regular meeting Tuesday evening included issues such as funding for housing affordability, grant funding and the city s homeless encampments. A public hearing was scheduled during the meeting for the city s 2021-2022 annual action plan, which outlines how funds from federal grant programs will be spent in the city throughout the fiscal year. The more than $5 million comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Community Development Block, HOME Investment Partnerships and Emergency Solutions grant programs. The city says the money will fund 27 grants to 24 agencies that will assist low‐income persons and address the City’s five primary goals and priorities to guide efforts to address Stockton’s priority housing and community development needs, which include housing services for the homeless, affordable housing, services for special needs, support for economic development and public services.
