Southern Essex Registry of Deeds reopens to public

Southern Essex Registry of Deeds reopens to public COURTESY OF SOUTHERN ESSEX REGISTRY OF DEEDS The Southern Essex Registry of Deeds, 45 Congress St., Salem, will continue the process of reopening to the public beginning May 3. At the beginning of April, the registry opened for in-person recordings and pre-scheduled research appointments. In-person recording hours will be expanded to 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.. A drop-off bin will still be available in the foyer for those who prefer to drop off instead of coming into the registry. Additionally the number of simultaneous onsite researchers will increase from 2 two to 10. The registry encourages visitors to make an appointment ahead of time but walk-ins will be accommodated by availability. All other safety precautions remain in effect.

Confessions will be offered at 10 a.m., followed by the outdoor Mass at 11 a.m. and rosary rally at noon. In 2017, Dan and Ellen Kasprzyk learned about a movement entitled “America Needs Fatima” that encourages individuals and families to come together to recite the rosary, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland said in a press release. “During that year, thousands of individuals around the country gathered once a month to publicly pray the rosary in honor of Our Lady of Fatima, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the appearance of Mary to three young visionaries in the town of Fatima, Portugal,” the release said.

Those are some of the themes artist Titi de Baccarat had in mind when he organized The Kneeling Art Photography project. He enlisted 10 Maine photographers to create portraits of dozens of Mainers taking a knee. The project explores the meaning and evolution of the gesture through the images and words, especially in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd and the conviction of his killer.
