As we gathered together to hear Pastor Hernan Sierra from Honduras speak last Wednesday, his son ended the service with a sentiment I also felt in my heart. Many people from several churches came together in one place as family. It didnât matter our backgrounds, ethnicities, or cultural differences. Yet, we felt like we belonged. Pastor Sierraâs message was one of hope as we are still experiencing the aftermath of 2020 in 2021.Â
One thing we are glad of as we embark into the third month of this year is being able to see the smiling faces of our members and guests in person instead of only through a computer screen. ATLANTA â Colquitt County School System will receive more than $85,000 through the Georgia Forest Land Protection Act, according to a release from state Sen. Dean Burke.
Burke, R-Bainbridge, announced that the FLPA will be reimbursing funds back into school districts for the following counties: Colquitt, Decatur, Early, Grady, Miller, Mitchell, Seminole and Thomas.
âI am so proud to see these reimbursements going directly back to our school districts,â said Sen. Burke. âIn the Amended Fiscal Year 2021 budget, $25 million has been allocated for the Forest Land Protection Act grant to offset property tax losses in rural communities. Itâs no secret that the COVID-19 pandemic has left many of our rural communities needing additional support, and I believe these reimbursements will do just that.â
