“AMBITIOUS” plans to create a new school and a national centre for excellence at the former St Mary’s site in Shaftesbury have been approved. Plans to create a new school for around 280 pupils with special educational needs and or disabilities (SEND) and a leading national centre of excellence at the site was approved after councillors considered views of local people, who overwhelmingly said it should continue to be used for education. Councillor Andrew Parry, Dorset Council portfolio holder for children, education and early help, said: “We have seized a unique opportunity to create something amazing for Dorset. We are determined to make Dorset the best place to grow-up by investing in forward thinking initiatives like this.
PLANS to create a new school and centre of excellence for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) near Shaftesbury have been given the go-ahead. The proposals for the former St Mary s School site, which will see the creation of a new school for around 280 pupils and a national centre of excellence, were approved by Dorset Council’s Cabinet. BRIDPORT News April 8th 2021 detailed some of Dorset Council staff’s generous pay packets. Dorset taxpayers support three times the number of Big Earners’ at over £100,000 p.a than the average English taxpayer. When it comes to super inflated salaries, Dorset taxpayers fund 6 ‘Big Earners’ at over £150,000p.a. when the average English taxpayer supports 1.7. Now this might be generous rather than foolish if our ‘Big Earners’ were extra efficient, well-qualified or experienced, but they cannot be any of these because Dorset Council staff are extra eager to hire in external consultants to help them. However, when it comes to results, our council staff and their consultants seem to be delivering poor value for money. For example, one ‘Big Earner’, Theresa Leavy has responsibility for our schools, for which she receives from the taxpayer a bumper £163,000 p.a. including pension. But where do we find Dorset schools? Not bumping along the bottom, surely?
