Ex-mayor takes responsibility for highways and waste

Kevin Parry One of the most high-profile jobs in cabinet is now the responsibility Kevin Parry. The mayor of the borough from 2019-20 has joined the cabinet to take on the waste services and highways portfolio left vacant when Maureen Penny stood down from being a councillor at the last election. Coun Parry said: “I’m delighted to have been asked to join the cabinet and build on the good work done by Coun Penny and her team. “The Street Smart portfolio is the one I’d have chosen for myself – it’s one of the frontline services of the council that everyone sees, and as a councillor I know that the majority of my casework is to do with waste and roads and pavements.

Meet the candidates standing in Blunsdon and Highworth

LOCAL ELECTIONS Clockwise from top left: Andrew Day (Green), Vijay Manro (Conservative), Michael Heal (Lib Dem), Tara Hurst (Independent) and Keir Baynham (Labour) are standing on May 6 Both Blunsdon and Highworth are feeling the effects of development and expansion – and many living in the area are fearing more.  Developers have been very active in this ward – attracted by good links into Swindon. This is particularly true of Blunsdon, where several parcels of land just to the north of the main route into town via the Coldharbour junction have had applications for housing development lodged or approved.  Further away in Highworth, housebuilders are also keen to add developments to greenfield sites.
