Members of Oldham’s planning committee have approved plans to waive a financial agreement with a developer to allow building work to go ahead in Royton. The former Dog & Patridge on Middleton Road had been due to be converted into apartments, but its condition has now deteriorated.

A majority of the members of Oldham’s planning committee voted to defer a decision on the proposals to convert the former Weavers Answer public house in Shaw. Councillors raised concerns about the access point being located very close to a bus stop, and also the layout and management of the facility on Milnrow Road.

Council approve conversion of former court into apartments despite ‘slums’ concerns Reporter: Charlotte Green, Local Democracy Reporter Date published: 27 January 2021 Oldham s former County Court Plans to convert Oldham’s former county court into apartments have been approved despite councillors’ concerns it could become a ‘modern slum of the future’. A meeting of the planning committee gave the green light to the proposals to transform the empty court building on Rochdale Road in the town centre into 43 flats. The building closed in July 2017, and all cases were transferred to Tameside Magistrates’ Court. During the time it was empty it became a home for ‘property guardians’  – but this venture was shut down by the town hall after it ruled its living accommodation was ‘substandard’.
