On Tuesday, Bannock County Commissioners agreed to Sheriff Tony Manu s request to retire one of the County s 3 narcotic canines. For the adoption fee of $1, Ryder will get to spend his golden years with his handler, Corporal Nick Zweigart. Ryder is both a narcotics and apprehension dog. He spent his first 6 years working with a different officer, but was transferred to the Sheriff s Office and into Zweigart s care two years ago.

Whatcom County Sherriff’s deputies responded to the 1300 block of Roma Road in Bellingham at about 1 a.m. on January 16 after a Washington State Patrol vehicle pursuit ended at a residence. 51-year-old Brett Frost from Bellingham reportedly fled into the house and refused to come out. At one point, the suspect exited out the back and pointed a handgun at deputies who were applying for a search warrant. Frost did not respond to crisis negotiation efforts and continued to refuse to exit the house until authorities used chemical munitions, at which point he surrendered and was taken into custody.

This isn’t the first time there have been reports of the illegal activity. Deputies also served notices last year to both places.

Pedestrian hit by truck in Cass County By: Kate Luce A pedestrian on a non-motorized scooter was struck by a passing pickup truck, deputies said. The pedestrian was transported by EMS to Niles Lakeland hospital for treatment of their injuries. Names are being withheld at this time. This case remains under investigation.
