Montgomery County police and school officials had an opportunity to address the arrest of a 5-year-old in Silver Spring last year.
SILVER SPRING, Md. - Montgomery County Police Chief Marcus Jones spoke out for the first time since video of a 5-year-old East Silver Spring Elementary School child being hand cuffed was released.
Chief Jones, along with Montgomery County Schools Superintendent Jack Smith, met with the Montgomery County Council in a virtual session to answer councilmembers’ questions about the disturbing incident.

A Montgomery County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed an erratic driving suspect on Saturday after authorities say the suspect caused two collisions, went after crash victims and struck a deputy with a piece of wood.
Kevin Costlow of Laytonsville was killed, the county police department said in an update Sunday. Costlow was 52 and a semi-retired information security consultant.
The deputy fired his weapon after the suspect hit him in the head and neck the wood, county police said. The deputy was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

An on-duty, uniformed Montgomery County police officer was assaulted while waiting in line at a Chipotle in Rockville, police said.
Nyziere London, 21, of Coatesville, Pennsylvania, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and resisting arrest, police said.
Investigators said the officer was in line Friday night waiting to order food at a Chipotle restaurant on Shady Grove Road in Rockville when London walked up to the officer and punched him in the face twice.
Police said London didn t say anything before the assault, was not provoked and did not have any previous interaction with the officer.
