Gardaí­ said the man has been charged with a count of criminal damage and is due to appear at Waterford District Court on July 6th. A number of Pride flags were taken down and set alight at the Mall in Waterford city in the early hours of last Monday.

Waterford children and young people honoured at annual Divisional Garda Youth Awards

Special Award winner, Saoirse Mullaney Young people, community groups, and clubs across Waterford were honoured at the Divisional Garda Youth Awards last night The ceremony which took place virtually saw awards being handed out across a wide range of categories Category winners and the overall winner were revealed in an online ceremony. Childerian Choir were recognised for their work in addressing Youth Suicide Prevention. The winner of the Special Award category was 13-year-old Ballygunner girl, Saoirse Mullaney. Saoirse suffers with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. But Inspector Gavin Hegarty says she hasn’t let that hold her back: “She has gone on to achieve some amazing things. She was National Champion in 2018 and 2019 in Taekwondo. She won gold at the UK ITF International Championships in Crawley in 2019.

Waterford Gardaí urge people not to attend house parties today

Gardaí in Waterford are urging people not to attend a house party, gathering or protest today. A major garda operation is under way across the country to ensure people adhere to Covid-19 restrictions this St Patrick’s Day. More than 2,500 gardai will be on duty nationwide to prevent large gatherings, non essential travel and house parties. Public order units have been deployed to various parts of Dublin – where anti-lockdown protests are expected – along with the air, dog and mounted units. Inspector Gavin Hegarty said there is a €500 fine for organising a house party; 429 have been issued nationwide and 1,600 for people who attended a house party.
