Harrisburg, PA - With expanding science and technology education a top priority of the Wolf administration, the Department of Education (PDE) today announced the winners of the eighth annual Governor’s STEM Competition, which was held virtually this year due to the pandemic.
“Pennsylvania is a leader in STEM education and this competition demonstrates how students are using the skills they have learned in their classrooms to create real-life solutions to everyday problems,” said Governor Tom Wolf. “This competition inspires students and every year we see teams who have accepted the challenge and shown us the remarkable work happening in our schools.

Governor Wolf Recognizes DGS Employees with Awards for Excellence for Work on COVID-19 and the 2020 Election

Pennsylvania Governor Tom recognized two individuals and one group of employees from the Pennsylvania Department of General Services for their commitment and dedication to providing exemplary services to other state agencies and the citizens of commonwealth during a very active year that saw the emergence of COVID-19 and the largest presidential election in history. They are among 51 employees from 10 agencies who were honored at a virtual awards ceremony on May 5 for their exceptional accomplishments in 2020.
According to Pennsylvania Climate Impacts Assessment 2021, PA’s average temperature will be 5.9° F higher by midcentury, with significant consequences for the health and safety of Pennsylvanians.
Since March 2020, Pennsylvaniaâs food banks have provided more than 283 million pounds of food. Food banks and the dedicated volunteers who have staffed their distribution operations have served an average of 551,700 people around the commonwealth each week. These networks provide fresh, healthy produce, dairy products, proteins, and shelf-stable products to help individuals and families in their communities meet this essential need.
Pennsylvania has also leveraged an authority granted through the Families First Coronavirus Response Act to request additional funds through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), a federally-funded food assistance program that helps more than 1.8 million Pennsylvanians by providing money each month to spend on groceries, helping households to purchase enough food to avoid going hungry.
