Veteran Congress leader Harish Rawat on Friday said Tirath Singh Rawat s resignation as Uttarakhand Chief Minister due to constitutional compulsion and byelections cannot be held in the state due to COVID is the biggest lie. What can be a bigger lie than this that byelections cannot be held in Uttarakhand due to COVID and the chief minister is resigning due to constitutional compulsion. Uttarakhand to get 3rd Chief Minister in a year
In a fiasco which reached its crescendo in barely four months, Uttarakhand will get its third Chief Minister in one year. The incumbent Chief Minister, Tirath Singh Rawat met Governor Baby Rani Maurya on late Friday night and submitted his resignation.
The BJP legislature party will meet at 3 p.m. on Saturday to choose a new leader for which sitting MLAs, Satpal Maharaj and Dhan Singh Rawat are said to be frontrunners. The two MLAS were called to Delhi on Friday by the BJP central leadership.
According to reports, Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar will be the observer for the legislative party meeting to be held at Dehradun.
Dhami’s name was proposed at the Legislature Party meeting in Dehradun a day after Garhwal MP Tirath Singh handed over his resignation as the Chief Minister to Governor Baby Rani Maurya to avoid “constitutional crisis”.
Speaking to the media after the announcement, Dhami said he would work towards taking the Centre’s schemes to the grass-roots level and try to win people’s hearts by serving them as the ‘pratham sewak’ of the state. He also said that he would try to “turn the challenge of 2022 Assembly elections into an opportunity” for his party.
Dhami represents the Khatima constituency in Udham Singh Nagar district, the region known as ‘terai’ and dominated by farmers, largely belonging to the Sikh community, and the center-stage of protests against the three Central farm laws.
