BURLEY, Idaho â Seven-year Idaho State Board of Education member and immediate past president, Debbie Critchfield, has announced her candidacy for state superintendent of public instruction on Tuesday, and will pursue the elected position as a Republican.
Focusing on current challenges and statewide discussions, Critchfieldâs primary focus is to restore the value of an Idaho education.
âParents are questioning the effectiveness of their childâs education, teachers are discouraged about their profession, local board members are wondering about the system, administrators are seeking for state direction, industry is desperate for student preparedness and taxpayers are debating state investments, Critchfield said. We must make education count. Itâs time to restore the value of an Idaho education.
BOISE, Idaho (Legal Newsline) – Idaho lawmakers have won a fight over territory with the state’s treasurer, as a Jan. 26 ruling from the state Supreme Court will evict Julie Ellsworth from her office.
This is as a result of a lawsuit by Speaker of the House Scott Bedke and Senate President Chuck Winder, who say state law allows them control of the first floor of the state Capitol. Idaho’s justices agreed in an opinion written by John Stegner.
Treasurer Ellsworth said an agreement with by former Gov. Butch Otter in 2007 allowed the Treasurer’s office to remain on the first floor. Ensuing legislation said the legislature would determine how to use the first, third and fourth floors of the building.

The Idaho Legislature’s attempts to strip not just our current Governor but any future Governor of their ability to lead during an emergency is wrong for Idaho and endangers the lives of Idahoans.
We both held the position of Speaker of the Idaho House of Representatives. We understand the constant disagreement that occurs between members of the Legislature and especially between members of the same political party. We understand the disagreement that occurs between the legislative and executive branches.

BOISE, Idaho Mike Simpson and Bruce Newcomb know a thing or two about trying to build consensus in the Republican Party. Both men served as speakers of the Idaho House of Representatives for multiple terms.
Simpson served as House Speaker from 1992-98, and was then elected to Congress to serve as representative for Idaho s Second Congressional District. He easily won a 12th term in Congress last November.
