A pilot project designed to provide meaningful online programming for elementary students in Winchester will be extended after the Winchester School Committee unanimously voted to accept a $24,000 grant during its Feb. 23 virtual meeting.
The Winchester Foundation for Educational Excellence (WFFE) Academy was a big hit with hundreds of parents as 97% of parents who responded to a survey about the Academy rated their family’s experience good or terrific.
“It is clear that we are all struggling with the balance between too much screen time and providing joyful, exciting experiences to our children,” WFEE Executive Director Caren Connelly said. “We wish these offerings could be in person but that isn’t possible. But, there is significant interest in the programming that we provided. We filled nearly 2,000 class slots with students attending kindergarten through fifth grade.”
