Arkansas Ag Hall of Fame sets Aug 20 induction ceremony

- Advertisement - LITTLE ROCK   The Arkansas Agriculture Hall of Fame has announced Friday, Aug. 20 as a target date for the induction ceremony for its next class of inductees. The ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Embassy Suites in Little Rock. The six-person class was announced in January, though at that time the AAHoF’s board of directors chose to forego its traditional early March induction ceremony to allow time to further evaluate health guidelines, vaccination rates and public health trends surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are still very cautious, though optimistic, that by late August the public health situation in Arkansas will be such that we can safely gather to celebrate these outstanding selections for the Arkansas Agriculture Hall of Fame,” said board chairman Butch Calhoun of Des Arc, a former secretary of the Arkansas Department of Agriculture. “The people of our state, including those in agriculture, have all dealt with a very difficult situat

Six inducted into the Arkansas Agriculture Hall of Fame

Rick Cartwright. (Arkansas Farm Bureau) A native of Arkansas, Rick Cartwright joined the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture in 1992 after earning his Ph.D in plant pathology from University of California Davis. He earned international recognition as a rice pathologist and served as interim head of the plant pathology department, and then the associate director of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the university.   He was named interim director of extension in 2016 and senior associate vice president for agriculture-extension for the UA Division of Agriculture in 2017. He retired June 30, 2020.  He has earned a number of awards including most recently the John White Outstanding Extension State Education Award in 2000 and received the National Distinguished Rice Research and Education Award in 2004 from the Rice Technical Working Group.
