Eagle River water levels rise above average flow

Streamflows on the local Eagle River have certainly seen a spike the past few days thanks to the recent rain. According to the Eagle River Water and Sanitation District, the Eagle River is experiencing flows 170% higher than normal near Minturn and 144% higher than normal in Avon. This is quite the difference from just four days ago, July 29, when the river level was 49% of the average streamflow for this time of year in Avon. According to Diane Johnson, the communications and public affairs manager for the Eagle River Water and Sanitation District, there have only been seven days since April 1 where the river levels have exceeded the average.

RS&H/Special to the Daily The road diet underway in front of the EagleVail business center is expected to be complete by the fall, with the county already scheduling a Sept. 13 ribbon cutting for the new trail it will provide. The highway is in the process of being condensed from five lanes to three lanes near mile markers 172 and 173 to create a new hard surface recreation path for pedestrians and bikers. Milling operations began in June from mile marker 170 in Dowd Junction through mile marker 174.5 at the Avon/Beaver Creek roundabout. milling work is expected to be complete next week, and paving will take place in the week that follows.

Fight over Battle Mountain: Minturn will seek outside legal advice before considering developer s proposal

The seven member Minturn Town Council unanimously approved a $20,000 spend on legal services Wednesday after weighing the proposal from developers of the Battle Mountain project on June 16 and tabling the effort. Along with continuing the consideration of the proposal to a date unspecified, the council also asked staff for more documentation regarding how much the developer owes to the town. Daily file photo Minturn Town Council members did not weigh a proposal from Battle Mountain developers for money owed to the town on Wednesday, nor are they likely to any time soon. Instead, elected officials have decided to hire outside legal services to examine the town’s options when it comes to the funds it owed from the large development agreement and annexation of areas of unincorporated land surrounding town which was approved by voters in 2008. The town went through with the annexation, but the development never materialized.
