Calls for IoM to move forward on renewable energy
There are calls to government to move forward significantly on renewable energy on the Isle of Man.
One per cent of the Island s energy comes from renewable sources, with around 80 per cent met by the gas turbine power station at Pulrose.
Around eight per cent comes from the Energy from Waste Plant, with the remainder imported from the UK.
Local demographer Paul Craine says limited supply of green energy here is putting people off buying electric vehicles:
But Head of Business at Jacksons Isle of Man in Braddan, Darren Moore, says day to day people have more logistical concerns with going electric:
Ensure process and product quality meet standards
Certificate of fitness is a requirement

Rates to rise in Ramsey
Fri, 29 Jan 2021
By Chris Cave - Local Democracy Reporter
Rates in Ramsey have been set at 415 pence in the pound for the forthcoming financial year. That’s a rise of just under 1 per cent. Commissioners in the town cited increasing costs and a number of improvement projects as reasons for the rise. It will mean owners of a three-bedroom house will pay around 9.5 pence per week more than last year. Higher disposal charges at the Energy from Waste Plant and the authority’s contributions to the Northern Civic Amenity Site have both been detailed as factors in the board’s decision.

Concerns about waste processing plant site in Los Veleros Benijofar
By Andrew Atkinson Exclusive
BENIJOFAR residents’ concerns about a waste site in the Vega Baja town are increasing amid The Benijofar socialist group having placed a denunciation in 2020 surrounding the issue.
Speaking exclusively to The Leader a resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “Two years ago they cleared the area in Los Veleros, then the floods came. At that time skips started to arrive on the site at 7.30am, up until 8.45pm.
“We thought it was because of the floods (Gota Fria) – but that was not the case. And, more importantly, we are lead to believe there are no licences to do it.”
