South African table grape consumption poised for growth in China
The South African Table Grape Industry (SATI) at the Jiangnonghui Fruit Wholesale market celebrated the launch of its inaugural China table grapes promotional campaign. The event furthermore symbolically marked the official beginning of the 2021 South African table grape season in China, which brings to the market here premium quality, highly demanded varieties grown by South Africa’s export-oriented master horticulturalists. Traders and consumers in China will benefit from SATI’s “China Specification,” exclusively developed to ensure the best possible South African table grapes are provided to this highly discerning market.

For some years now it has been the objective of South Africa’s fresh produce industry to gain a greater foothold in the markets of the east.
This has been demonstrated emphatically by the country s table grape and apple and pear industries deciding to launch promotional campaigns in China this year.
Table grapes will kick off next month with pilot promotions in some wholesale markets and retailers, while the apple sector is now putting its final plans together to launch its own marketing activities.
Strategic partnership between SATI and Western Cape Department of Agriculture to increase exports to China
Over the past two weeks, Western Cape table grapes producers have been harvesting table grapes. These are to be marketed under the South African Table Grape Industry’s (SATI s) China Market Development Campaign in March 2021.
The campaign is a strategic partnership between the table grape industry and the Western Cape Department of Agriculture (WCDoA) and aims to increase market access for table grape producers. Minister Meyer stated: “One of my Ministerial priorities is market access. The strategic partnership with SATI is aligned to this. The aim is to increase exports of Western Cape agricultural produce by 5% over the next five years.”
