Sunderlandâs pre-season schedule continues this Wednesday night at the LNER Community Stadium, as Lee Johnsonâs side visit York City (KO 7pm).
The Ladsâ midweek match-up comes following a productive Scottish training camp, glossed off with a well-earned 2-0 win at Tynecastle Park against Heart of Midlothian thanks to Aiden McGeadyâs double.
York host the Black Cats on the back of the weekendâs pre-season win over Newcastle United at the clubâs newly built stadium, with manager Steve Watson gearing his side up for an expected promotion push throughout the 2021-22 National League North campaign.
In past competitive meetings, Sunderland have won 10 from 14 against the Minstermen, the last success coming in a two-legged League Cup tie in 1998 from which we emerged 4-1 aggregate winners.

Former Target Washington Linked

Town are reported to be interested in signing Sheffield United striker Conor Washington with his contract with the promoted Blades up this summer.
Northern Ireland international Washington, 26, joined the South Yorkshiremen at the start of the season from QPR but made only four starts and 12 sub appearances during 2018/19 without scoring and seems certain to be released by the Blades.
According to the
EADT, Town are keen to add Washington, who joined QPR from Peterborough United for £2.5 million in January 2016, to their squad ahead of their 2019/20 League One campaign.
However, Chatham-born Washington, who is 5ft 10in tall, is likely to be of interest to a number of Championship clubs, who Town would almost certainly struggle to beat on wages given the £9 million impact of dropping into League One.
