Pedro Menendez High School officials put the students and staff on a lockdown at around 11:15 a.m. Friday after receiving a report of a student with a gun. We received a report from a parent that there was a firearm missing from the home and thought that his child may have the firearm, Principal Clay Carmichael wrote in a email to parents. Out of an abundance of caution we placed the school on a brief lockdown while we located the student.
School officials worked with St. Johns County sheriff s deputies to interview the student and determined the student did not have a firearm in their possession.
