According to Gartner data, determination and sensitivity are two critical characteristics for new chief information officers this year. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to shift the landscape for how global CIOs manage, collaborate and respond to their stakeholders, so too does the demand for strong leadership and core emotional dexterity competencies, the research firm explained.
Determination was defined as a firmness of resoluteness and in turning decisions into actions, despite how tough they are, while sensitivity was the quality of feeling empathetic toward others difficulties and acting accordingly. Demand for the determination trait increased 34 percent in 2020 compared to 2019, Gartner noted, and demand for sensitivity increased 92 percent.

Math software company Maplesoft has launched a new online learning environment for high school and college-level mathematics instruction. Maple Learn provides flexible problem-solving tools, interactive explorations of mathematical expressions and more, all accessible via a web browser and internet connection.

Student Opportunity Center (SOC) has joined forces with labor market analytics firm Esmi, adding the latter s job postings and internship information to SOC s database of experiential learning opportunities across the United States.
The SOC platform helps connect students with high-quality experiential activities that bridge the gap between course curricula and workforce needs, according to the company. Combined with Esmi s job listings, labor market data and analysis of in-demand workforce skills, the platform can help institutions adjust their campus programs to meet workplace needs. Esmi s data also includes virtual opportunities, so students can benefit from experiential learning remotely during the pandemic.

A new program out of Olivet Nazarene University s School of Graduate and Continuing Studies is using an online, asynchronous flipped model to provide adult students a pathway to earn a bachelor s degree. The Your Way program offers tuition-free general education courses in which students access course material independently, and then participate in an online community with classmates and faculty to expand their knowledge and deepen understanding, the university explained in a news announcement. Through Your Way, general education courses are tuition-free so that adult students from across the nation have equitable access to college, said Ryan Spittal, vice president for Olivet s ONU Global division, in a statement.
