Some things are just meant to be together. We could list some, but let your imagination wander. Other things are better suited on their own especially when it comes to certain skincare products. Powerful ingredients such as retinol, Vitamin C, benzoyl peroxide, and even certain acids demand to be the star of the show. Sharing the stage could lead to major drama in the form of irritation, redness, temporary staining, or just a general lack of desired results. There are so many great active ingredients out there and it may seem like using more of them would give you better results, but that’s not always the case, says Aegean Chan, a board-certified dermatologist based in Santa Barbara, California.
“Nobody rides life on a high,” Michelle Obama said recently during an appearance on the
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “And I think it’s important for young people to know that… No, you’re not going to feel great all the time and there are moments in all our lives particularly in the middle of a pandemic and racial unrest you’re going to feel a kind of way about it, so give yourself a break.”
In August last year, the former first lady opened up about experiencing low-grade depression on
The Michelle Obama Podcast. “It’s turning off the noise that is upsetting, you know, knowing that I can’t keep reading all the feeds that are fuelling my anxiety and taking a break from it,” she continued, adding she used a similar coping method while she was living in the White House. Going for walks, exercising and being surrounded by friends and family are all things that make her feel good, too, she said.

The National Institute of Health (NIH), Maryland, describes Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) as a “distressing or impairing preoccupation with imagined or slight defects in appearance”, listing it as an obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorder. For anyone who’s struggled or is struggling with body image issues, you’ll understand the severity of this often misunderstood disorder.
Now with the ongoing pandemic changing the way we interact with each other from work calls to online schooling, celebrations and other social interaction, we’ve all come to rely on Zoom and other virtual platforms to connect many, especially those with an underlying BDD, are experiencing a heightened awareness of their physical appearance on camera.
