Fairhope High band director arrested on child pornography charges

By Guy Busby FAIRHOPE – Fairhope High School band director Anthony Wayne Fillingim was arrested Wednesday, Jan. 27, on four felony charges of possession of obscene matter, investigators with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday. Fillingim, 43, was charged after deputies searched his Daphne home. A warrant had been issued after an investigation of reports determined that that Fillingim had downloaded sexually explicit images of someone younger than 17, a Sheriff’s Office statement said. Investigators searching his home found at least one electronic device that was directly related to the transfer of the unlawful images. They also seized other devices that are being checked, the statement said.

School board raises superintendent salary to $242,500

By Guy Busby BAY MINETTE – Baldwin County Superintendent of Education Eddie Tyler became the second-highest paid public school superintendent in the state following action by the Board of Education. The board voted Thursday, Jan. 21, to extend Tyler’s contract for another two years, to 2024 and increase his pay to $242,500 a year, up from $212,940. Board Member Cecil Christenberry, who made the motion for the increase, said Tyler has made Baldwin an example for the rest of Alabama. “I think he needs to be the highest paid superintendent in the state of Alabama,” Christenberry said. “Because when the school system of the state comes down and asks us how to do stuff, that makes us swell up.”
