Victoria Klimek had possession of the puck behind the Penn State goal. She broke left to find an opening on Josie Bothun’s glove side. Freshman Sarah Thompson was waiting patiently for the rebound. Thompson pounced on the spinning puck and precisely nudged it behind a diving Bothun for the score.
Less than two minutes after Penn State’s first goal, Syracuse responded with a sequence of shots on goal to even the score to 1-1. After 14 trying shots from the Orange, they finally snuck the puck behind Penn State’s freshman goaltender.

Freshman Tatum White gathered the puck at mid-ice from Madison Beishuizen. Allison Small had just halted a Penn State possession after blocking a shot from her right side. White was now in a two-on-two breakaway with fellow forward Abby Moloughney and two Nittany Lion defenders.
White passed to Moloughney, who corralled the puck in after a Penn State defender blocked the pass. The junior fired a shot toward the goal, but freshman goaltender Josie Bothun bodied the puck out of harm’s way.

Penn State came back from a two-goal deficit last weekend to force overtime against Syracuse. The Orange defended four shots in the 3-on-3 situation for five minutes, ultimately holding the Nittany Lions to a tie.
It looked like Syracuse would do the same Friday night, with the game tied 3-3 and the clock ticking down in overtime. But with just over a minute remaining, Kiara Zanon carried the puck deep into Syracuse’s zone. She fired a backhanded shot over goaltender Allison Small’s right shoulder, securing Penn State’s 4-3 victory.
