COLUMBUS (AP) Despite playing just six games because of a COVID-19 issues, Ohio State made the College Football Playoff as the No. 3 seed and will face No. 2 Clemson in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day.
Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence bested Justin Fields and the Buckeyes in that one, 29-23.

The Rematch: Clemson vs. Ohio State in CFP Semifinal
The College Football Playoff announced today that the second-seeded Clemson Tigers will face the third-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes in the Allstate Sugar Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, La., on Friday, Jan. 1.
Clemson earned the #2 spot in the final College Football Playoff rankings, clinching their sixth straight CFP berth. The Tigers will play Ohio State in the College Football Playoff Semifinal against the Ohio State Buckeyes, a rematch of the memorable 2019 Fiesta Bowl that resulted in a 29-23 victory for Clemson.
The selection marks Clemson’s national-best sixth consecutive College Football Playoff (CFP) appearance. With the selections by both schools this year, Clemson and Alabama (six each) remain tied for the most CFP berths in history.
Irish Punch Ticket to Second Playoff Berth in Three Seasons share
NOTRE DAME, Indiana For the second time in three seasons, Notre Dame has earned a slot in the College Football Playoff. The No. 4 Irish (10-1) have been selected to play in the Rose Bowl Game presented by Capital One and will take on No. 1 Alabama (11-0) in the CFP Semifinal.
This season, the Rose Bowl game will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Friday, January 1, 2021 at 4 p.m. ET. The game will be aired on ESPN. This season marks the first time Notre Dame has played in the Rose Bowl since 1925 vs. Stanford (27-10 victory).
