Canandaigua’s MLK Celebration to be held virtually MPNnow CANANDAIGUA First Congregational Church of Canandaigua will not host an in-person Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration this year, but will post a recording of 2020’s event on its website and YouTube on Jan. 18.  The focus of the celebration is to honor the life, legacy and vision of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Canandaigua Academy students presented a dramatic reading of King’s “Letter From Birmingham Jail.” The annual celebration also featured winners of the MLK Jr. Poster Contest, in which students in grades 2-5 competed to produce the best poster art. Three winning posters were selected from each grade and students received a $25 cash prize.

Ellis County Seniors can apply for scholarships provided by the ECMGA

Daily Light Report Since 2003, the Ellis County Master Gardener Association (ECMGA) has offered college scholarships to graduating high school seniors residing in Ellis County. Applications are now available for seniors graduating in 2021. We wanted to provide opportunities to these students that chose college studies in horticulture and/or life sciences disciplines, stated a news release.  Since its creation, the association has aided 46 graduating high school students with college scholarships totaling $90,100. According to the release, To qualify, the applicant must be a 2021 graduating high school senior residing in Ellis County from an Ellis County High School, Ellis County Charter High School or Ellis County Home School Program. The applicant must have an elected academic major in a horticulture/life sciences - related field that includes, but is not limited to horticulture, agriculture, environmental science, forestry, botany, biology (e.g.: plant genetics, plant ph

Mt. Zion Chamber Scholarship Applications Now Available The Mt. Zion Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for their 2021 College Scholarships. To apply, you must be a Mt. Zion High School Senior, or any high school senior who is the child of a dues paying Mt. Zion Chamber member. If home-schooled, you must provide proof of eligibility. Applicants must enroll as a full-time college student and may declare any major. $3,000 will be divided among the qualified awardees this year and the deadline for the application is March 15, 2021.
