In a series Oregon softball needs to sweep to move up in the Pac-12 standings and improve its chances of hosting an NCAA Super Regional, the Ducks got off to a good start.
Brooke Yanez struck out 12 and scattered four hits and two walks in a shutout and Haley Cruse went 3 for 3 with an RBI double to lead No. 11 Oregon to a 2-0 win at Cal Thursday afternoon in Berkeley.
The Ducks left five on base over the first four innings, including two in the first and third innings, and the Bears stranded four over the first four innings.

University of Washington volleyball setter, Ella May Powell, reflects on her knee injury and the months-long recovery process.
SEATTLE - The University of Washington has two regular-season matches remaining with a chance to win the Pac 12 championship. The team plays matches at Cal Thursday and Saturday, then the NCAA selection committee will announce the tournament seeding Sunday.
This will be quite a feat, especially for UW Husky setter, Ella May Powell whose season almost ended before it even got started.
