Volunteers for the Cal Poly Cat Program have rescued more than 400 kittens this year.
Staff members say this is almost three times greater than previous years.
The high number of stray kittens are due in part to local animal shelters closing during the pandemic and the fast rate at which cats breed.
The social media coordinator of the program is encouraging community members to consider fostering or adopting cats. We invest so much time, love, energy and money into them, so we definitely have a pretty stringent adoption process, but it s worked out great. This year, as of this week, we ve had 223 adoptions, said the program s social media coordinator Andrea Brkic.
