Bridging Communities Iftar to Be Held Virtually

The sixth annual Bridging Communities Iftar will be presented online Thursday, April 29, from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Pacific Time.
“Vigilant Love’s annual Iftar is a powerful, inter-spiritual, and multi-generational community experience, and this year we invite you to join us virtually to (re)connect, deepen our sense of solidarity, and cultivate joy after an isolating year for so many,” event organizers said.
“Our theme for the 2021 Iftar is ‘Journey Through the Night,’ inspired deeply by a physical and spiritual journey the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) took to the farthest mosque and then the heavens. As Downtown Lubbock revitalization efforts continue, leaders of organizations involved in the efforts discuss the focus of revitalization and how Texas Tech students can benefit from it.
Mont McClendon, general counsel and chief operating officer of McDougal Companies has worked downtown for about 25 years and is deeply involved in the master redevelopment efforts in Downtown Lubbock. McClendon said some of the original recommendations concerned public space infrastructure, like moving utilities underground. A method that was successful in the Overton Hotel area.
Additionally, McClendon said they focused on harmonizing the various constituent documents related to downtown.
âThere were lots of opinions about downtown from a lot of different sources,â McClendon said. âAnd we welcome that, because you know, a diversity of opinion, a diversity of ideas, a diversity of viewpoints, all of these sorts of things. But at some point, they just started to clash.â

Interdisciplinary tap dance artist Michael J. Love; filmmaker and visual artist Tiona Nekkia McClodden; and comedian, actress and disability advocate Maysoon Zayid have been named Princeton University Arts Fellows for 2021-23 by the Lewis Center for the Arts, and as such will begin two years of teaching and community collaboration in September.
The Arts Fellows program of the Lewis Center provides support for early-career artists who have demonstrated both extraordinary promise and a record of achievement in their fields with the opportunity to further their work while teaching within a liberal arts context, according to information provided by the Lewis Center.
