SENIOR SHOWCASE BUILDING and SERVICE CLOSURES: This is a great time to remind everyone that per our policy, all Finney County Committee on Aging services and buildings are closed when Garden City USD 457 is closed due to bad weather. This includes Finney County Transit and all bus services and the Senior Center; all activities and meal services. We will announce weather-related closures on both local radio and western Kansas TV stations -ABC, CBS and NBC. We will also post closure notices on our Facebook pages. If the weather is frightful, please check before coming in or going to a bus stop.

SENIOR SHOWCASE WHAT’S HAPPENING? The Finney County Committee on Aging (FCCA) has their monthly board meeting this week, on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Blue Room at the Senior Center. This board is appointed by the Finney County Commission and oversees both the Senior Center and Finney County Transit. Masks are required to come into Senior Center and the Transit Center and to ride the bus. All bus rides are free, now and through June 30, 2021. This is a great time to try us out. Now Hiring - we are still looking to add a couple of CDL drivers with passenger endorsement to our crew. We need both City Link and Mini-Bus drivers. We also will be needing a diver for our Senior Center trips in the springtime.

Florida Keys native Hale returns to showcase latest art

Taylor Hale is a Florida Keys native who draws inspiration from a lifetime on the water in Key Largo. Hale earned a bachelorâs degree from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2009, but if it wasnât for a certain local high school experience, he may never have become an artist. âDuring my junior year at Coral Shores, I was awarded a financial scholarship for a sculpture I made in art class that allowed me to attend a summer session at an art school.â Hale said. âIf it wasnât for that opportunity, and the encouragement I received at Coral Shores, I wouldnât have pursued a career as a painter.â The winning ceramic sculpture was a palm tree in the art deco style using a couple different techniques. His art teacher was Brenda Bush.
