UPPER KEYS â Taylor Hale is a Florida Keys native who draws inspiration from a lifetime on the water in Key Largo. Hale earned a bachelorâs of fine arts degree from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2009, but if it wasnât for a certain local high school experience, he may never have become an artist.
âDuring my junior year at Coral Shores, I was awarded a financial scholarship for a sculpture I made in art class that allowed me to attend a summer session at an art school.â Hale said. âIf it wasnât for that opportunity, and the encouragement I received at Coral Shores, I wouldnât have pursued a career as a painter.â
Activities for everyone
WHAT’S HAPPENING: The safety of our guests and staff is of utmost importance to us. We are hopeful that the COVID-19 numbers in our community and southwest Kansas will begin to drop. Until then, we will keep things as safe as possible here; we are still wearing masks and practicing social distancing at the Center and at Transit. We also have lots of hand sanitizer available for you to use. We continue to be super diligent with the cleaning of our buildings and the buses. We plan to bring back more activities in 2021 and hope to get a few trips scheduled as the weather warms up. “Ride Free” continues on all of our transit buses through June 30, 2021. The Transit Center is closed on Monday, January 18 and the buses will not run that day.

Do you ever have one of those memories that bubble up to the surface and you re not sure why? Well, this is one of those.
When I was in high school I loved Art Class, and one day the project I was working on really challenged me. When I came up with an idea, I wanted to share it with my teacher. So I got out of my seat and I walked up to his desk. Before I could even show him my sketch, he yelled at me and told me to go back and sit in my seat. I was startled and confused; I was shut down. I just wanted to share something that I cared about. I want to hear his thoughts. So what I did was ripped up my sketch and told him he did not care about teaching art. That was kind of dramatic.
