After years of hearing about and experiencing harassment in running including a tipping-point incident involving one of their own a group of female leaders have come together to end gender-based violence in the trail and ultra running community. In the summer of 2020, Crista Scott Tappan, Alison Cebulla, Christy Teranishi Martinez, Jody Sanborn, Gina Lucrezi, and other female trail and ultrarunners formed the Runners Equity Alliance (REA) to build a safer, more equitable running space.

(CSU Channel Islands photo) In addition to being trained in the CSUCI Nursing program, the students who give vaccinations are supervised while on-site to ensure everything goes smoothly. “All students who participated in the vaccination clinic were supervised by either a faculty member or a licensed registered nurse,” Landry said. “Students are not able to administer vaccinations without a nurse supervising them.”

Steward was born and raised in Santa Barbara, the daughter of Mexican immigrants. Educated locally at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and Bishop Garcia Diego High School, she attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles and after graduation worked in the fashion industry. Upon returning to Santa Barbara, she worked alongside her parents at the family business Rudy’s Mexican Restaurants. She and her husband Neal opened their own Rudy’s in the Presidio neighborhood three years ago.

LVMC Nurse Recognized as 35th Assembly District Woman of Year

She earned a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry from San Francisco State University and bachelor of science in nursing from California State University Channel Islands. She began her career at LVMC working as a certified nurse assistant at the Comprehensive Care Center. “I am honored to be included in this wonderful and special group of women from all over California being recognized by our representatives in the California Assembly,” Carey said. “I truly believe that this individual recognition wouldn’t be possible without the support of our incredible team of healthcare staff at Lompoc Valley Medical Center, and the wonderful patients that I have the pleasure of working with every day,” he said.
