Group calls California high-speed rail ‘most important thing’ and urges legislature to act
High-speed rail proponents are urging state lawmakers in California to make the right move.

The national nonprofit High Speed Rail Alliance (HSRA) kicked off a week of action preceding Earth Day focusing on the work being done in California for high-speed rail and its climate impact.
California is not on track to meet the state’s 2030 goals for greenhouse gas emissions, and building out high-speed rail infrastructure in the state is critical for taking cars off the roads and changing travel patterns for a sustainable, green future.

A former recycling center is destined to be converted into commuter parking.
The Manteca City Council when they meet tonight at 7 p.m. is expected to approve the purchase of 0.46 acres at 346 and 372 Moffat Boulevard the site of the former Manteca Recycling Center to expand the Manteca Transit Center parking lot. The agreed upon price is $350,000.
However, the
San Jose Mercury-Newsreported Sunday, even Biden’s new spending may not be enough for the project:
The $2.3 trillion infrastructure package President Joe Biden rolled out last week has backers of the California bullet train dreaming of what could be.
The torrent of federal funding could provide the beleaguered project with billions of dollars needed to bring high-speed rail to the Bay Area or even Los Angeles. Or its share could be much, much less.
One thing is for sure: Without a whole lot more federal money, it could end up being a costly, controversial train with only five stops between Merced and Bakersfield.
