Asia: Thousands of Child Marriages Amid Pandemic Lockdown
In Bangladesh, child protection authorities tried to stop a child marriage that would take place at 8:30. The parents blamed the COVID-19 crisis for their decision. Child protection officials counseled the family, who in turn promised not to marry off the child, only to proceed with the marriage at 2 am.
In India, harsh lockdowns caused millions of job loss particularly with impoverished migrants. In just 4 months (March to June) lockdown, ChildLine India reported 5, 214 child marriages. But the organization claims there are more cases not reported.

As COVID-19 cases rise, an increasing number of parents pull out their children from public schools. Distance learning or online classes do not work for such families. Parents then began to explore alternative methods of educating their kids.
When both parents are working and children are less inclined to digital learning, pandemic pods may be the solution. But, not all families can afford this solution. So much so that this option is criticized for being an option only for the elite.
Micro-schooling or Learning Pods during Pandemic It is not exactly the classroom, but also not exactly being alone, explained Augie Napolie, President and CEO of the United Way of Greater Cleveland. The organization supports academic learning pods.

TAUNTON On Monday, Dec. 21, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Southwill begin taking registrations for its Taunton Clubhouse’s Winter 2021 programming session.
The session will run from Jan. 4 through Feb. 12 and will include new pre-teen enrichment offerings, floor hockey for preschoolers, and free swim lessons for members during the 6-week session. BGCMS will also be waiving its $35 annual Club membership fee for the remainder of the 2020-2021 programming year which concludes on Aug. 31.
For their youngest members age 5-7, BGCMS is offering “Storybook Creations” on Mondays, supplementing school English Language Arts curriculum to work with youth to create their own fully bound storybook.

Underprivileged & struggling families in East Palo Alto have something to be happy about this holiday season. Thanks to Live In Peace, a nonprofit that has served the small town for over two decades, 370 families in EPA will keep a roof over their heads. Live In Peace director Heather Starnes-Logwood was forced to find different ways to assist the community during the pandemic outside of their usual gym + fitness activities, bike workshop program & family events. An idea was sprouted from a noticed need in the community for financial assistance, primarily for help with rent & school supplies.
The goal was set to raise $100,000 for EPA families and Live In Peace put the call out to its clients, community members & friends. The goal was not only set but shattered! $2.3 million dollars was raised, which touts the nonprofits yearly earnings by a huge amount. With the funds Live In Peace has provided help to those less fortunate during a year that has seen such g
