India No 1 Ankita Raina and veteran Sania Mirza will spearhead India’s five-member team for the Billie Jean King Cup (formerly known as Fed Cup) World Group Play-offs away tie against Latvia.
The team includes Karman Kaur Thandi, Zeel Desai, and Rutuja Bhosale while Riya Bhatia, who was a playing member last year, will be the reserve player. Vishal Uppal will continue as the captain.

Country’s best singles player Ankita Raina and veteran Sania Mirza will lead India in the next month’s Billie Jean King Cup World Group Play-offs away tie against formidable Latvia as the AITA named a five-member team on Tuesday for the tournament.
The five-member team also has Karman Kaur Thandi, young Zeel Desai, who is making steady progress, and Rutuja Bhosale.
The All India Tennis Association (AITA) selection committee picked the team after a virtual meeting on Tuesday.
Riya Bhatia, who was a playing member last year, will be the reserve player of the team, which will be captained by Vishal Uppal.

Rising Indian tennis player Karman Kaur Thandi came closer to winning her maiden ITF singles title when she stormed into the finals of the USD 25000 ITF event in Niman, China by defeating fifth seed Xinyu Gao 6-1 6-1 in the semis on Thursday.
