The company has presented before the commission that the steep increase in power purchase cost has forced it to propose a hike in tariff. However, the majority of organizations, including Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and consumers objected to the company’s demand. Mescom has a 24.88 lakh consumer base in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru and it expects to sell 5,658 million units of power in 2021-22.

KCCI, which presented its objections for revision of power tariff proposed by Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) at the public hearing of KERC in Mangaluru on Friday, said that Mescom has demanded tariff revision when the total demand from the industrial sector is coming down. In his submission before the KERC, Isaac Vas, President of KCCI, said that with the Covid pandemic and lockdowns impacting their cash cycles, MSMEs have faced severe bottlenecks. As an important part of the domestic and global value chains, the plight of MSMEs is of deep concern, he said.

(MESCOM) formally launched the ‘Nanna MESCOM’ app on Friday. Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) chairman Shambu Dayal Meena launched the app. He also launched the use of Point of Sale (POS) machines at the MESCOM cash counters to help consumers pay bills using their debit and credit cards. The POS machines will start operating from March at 78 cash counters in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga, and Chikkamagaluru. Prashant Kumar Meena, MD of MESCOM, said the Nanna MESCOM app would help consumers to pay their electricity bills from the comfort of their homes. It will also help them pay security deposits and get PDF of the bill and receipt. At a public hearing organised by the KERC at the Court Hall of the Deputy Commissioner s (DC) Office on Wednesday morning, along with Mysuru Industries Association (MIA) representatives of various bodies including Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Mysore Industries Association (MIA), KIADB Industrial Area Manufacturers Association (KIAMA), Hebbal Industrial Estate Manufacturers Association (HIEMA) and domestic consumers sought the dismissal of the CESC petition that seeks a hike of 130.9 paise (Rs. 1.30) per unit across categories.
