The High Court of Karnataka on Monday reactivated a committee to oversee the process of process of identification, medical examination, and treatment of malnourished children, lactating mothers, and adolescent girls in the State.
A.N. Venugopala Gowda, a retired judge of the High Court, will be the chairperson of the Committee. The other members are: Commissioner, Health and Family Welfare Department, Director, Department of Women and Child Development, Chairperson, Karnataka State Commission for Child Rights, M.S. Tara, former regional director of National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development, Clifton D’Rozario, an advocate, Director, Indira Gandhi Institute for Child Health, and member-secretary, the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority.

BENGALURU: The Karnataka high court on Tuesday imposed a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on a petitioner, who made a request that a judge from outside of Karnataka should hear a civil dispute concerning Sosale mutt in Mysuru.
V Gururaj, from Bengaluru, is the second respondent in the case, which is pending before a single bench of the court. The petitioner contended that a former Chief Justice of India, from Karnataka, had “a strong clout” over judges elevated from the state’s bar.
Terming the allegation “unfortunate” and “an attempt to cast aspersions on the former CJI”, a division bench headed by Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka said, “The averments constitute a classic example of scandalising the court, which, per se, (is) criminal contempt of this court. prima facie the State government’s officials appear to be insensitive towards implementing Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bhima Yojana, the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday directed the government to pay within one week the crop insurance amount for the year 2016-17 due to 189 eligible farmers of Shahapur taluk of Yadgir district.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Justice Sachin Shankar Magadum issued the direction during the hearing of a PIL petition filed by Akhanda Karnataka Raitha Sangha, Yadgir district.
Expressing shock over the contention of the government that crop insurance amount could not be transferred to 189 farmers as their bank accounts were non-functional, the Bench questioned why the authorities did not contact the farmers despite having all their details.

A team of 522 para-legal volunteers, along with 257 advocates on the panel of the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA), inspected COVID-19 Care Centres across the State during the pandemic to ensure proper facilities were provided.
Elaborating its activities during the pandemic, the KSLSA, in a press released issued here on Friday, said it had assisted in speedy disbursement of about ₹58.69 crore from the government’s COVID-19 compensation scheme to the accounts of washermen and hairdressers through direct debit transfer in five stages.
A panel, headed by A.V. Chandrashekar, a retired judge of the High Court of Karnataka, which was set up to undertake the task of providing legal assistance to workers in the unorganised sector, had issued direction to the government departments concerned to act swiftly to ensure that benefits of the schemes announced during the pandemic reached the needy at the earliest, the release added.
