Gartnavel s walled garden A HOSPITAL is helping patients heal by taking them back to nature in one of Glasgow s hidden gem gardens. Volunteers and patients are working together in the Walled Garden at Gartnavel Royal, a historic greenspace bursting with plants, flowers and colours. It is hoped the Growing Spaces project, run with the Art in the Gart programme, will have a life-changing effect on participants. Camilo Brokaw, originally from America, is a Senior Project Officer from The Conservation Volunteers (TCV). He said: “This space has so much importance – it’s a historic space that was originally conceived as being fundamental to the therapeutic process for the patients here.

Wemyss Bay crafter s act of love for hospital patients and their families

A WEMYSS Bay woman is showing lots of love by knitting matching hearts for hospital patients and their families. Alison Clark has joined in with a health board campaign to help people in Inverclyde Royal and elsewhere during the pandemic. The drive aims to give patients a knitted heart while also sending one home to loved ones who are not allowed to visit during Covid-19. Kind-hearted knitter Alison has already stitched up 50 hearts so far. Alison, 65, who used to work in the fire brigade control room, said: I think what the doctors and nurses are doing in hospitals is amazing.

Coronavirus: Duntocher s Josie Torrance touches Clydebank s hearts with poetry

A DUNTOCHER woman went the extra mile to add a personal touch to an NHS appeal which helps families affected by coronavirus. Last month NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) made an appeal for residents in the area to knit small hearts to allow families in Clydebank feel close to their relatives as they battled Covid. Josie Torrance, 75, took it one step further by attaching little heartfelt poems which she wrote herself, to her knitted hearts She said: “I just wanted to help, so I put some wee messages in, to let them know they were loved. “Me and my husband are doing OK, but I know so many people are having a difficult time. I hope my hearts – and my poems – help a little.”
