West Bloomfield Police Department reports an increase in fraud cases

WEST BLOOMFIELD An increase in frauds perpetrated against township residents has gotten the attention of the West Bloomfield Police Department.
“There’s been a significant increase in both the volume and the variety of frauds that we’ve seen over the last, probably, year and a half,” Deputy Chief Curt Lawson said. “This has resulted in the loss of tens of thousands of dollars to our residents.”
Lawson said there were 475 fraud reports in 2020, and there have been 75 so far by the middle of March this year.

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. – An Oakland County woman is warning residents after a terrifying scam that happened to her in February.
She received a phone call that said there was a warrant out for her and that she needed to pay up or she’d be taken to jail.
Then the scammers showed up on her doorstep.
Police believe this scam is happening all over Metro Detroit and are on the rise.
The woman asked Local 4 to conceal her identity.
She said the scam call offered to void her warrant if she cooperated.
