A Memphis man accused of shooting another man said the victim and others had been harassing him and tried to force him to leave town.
“It’s a racially motivated hate crime and these people were trying to run me out of downtown Memphis, Kirk Stewart, said in a phone interview from the Macomb County jail Tuesday.
Stewart said the victim of the shooting and several others threatened to hang and kill him when talking to him on his CB radio talk show. They called him racial slurs, and Stewart would engage in name-calling with them. They came to his home several times and threw bricks.
