Prison Planet com » No Units To Send – Baltimore Shortage of EMS Personnel During Night of Shootings

May 7, 2021 Baltimore City has recorded a 17% jump in homicides in 2021 compared with the same time last year so far. Violent crime is spiraling out of control ahead of the summer month as the city halted prosecutions of prostitution, drug possession, and other minor offense. There was one point where so much chaos unfolded in such a short period that the city did not have enough medic units to treat shooting victims. On April 30, Baltimore City reached a grave milestone of 100 homicides. Frustrated with new city leadership, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan is concerned about the city descending into further chaos in the months ahead.

Baltimore fire chief, firefighters union spar over claim that department doesn t have enough EMS units

Officials vow to keep fighting violence as homicides spike

BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore’s mayor and police commissioner said Monday that they’ll keep looking for ways to suppress violence after a string of deadly days pushed the city’s homicide count far beyond last year’s pace. The Baltimore Sun reported Monday night that seven people had been killed since Saturday, bringing the homicide total for the year to 107. That’s a 17% increase from the 91 homicides recorded by the same point last year, when the city reached a total of 335 killings. The string of shootings includes what Mayor Brandon Scott called a “mass shooting” during a large gathering at Carroll Park on Sunday night. Four people were shot and one of them died.

Baltimore City Fire Department, union leaders disagree over staffing issues

Print Kai Reed, WBAL-TV There weren t enough EMS units to send to a quadruple shooting in Carroll Park over the weekend, according to the Baltimore City Fire Union. However, the city fire department said things are not quite what they seem. As one of the busiest EMS systems per capita, our members handled this incident extremely well, said Baltimore City fire Chief Niles Ford said. Immediately, two units were dispatched at 8:12 p.m. that is less than one minute, Ford said. His comments come a day after the fire union tweeted a portion of the audio from the dispatch call.
