Residents and visitors are being asked to have their say on how to best promote and celebrate Newarkâs history and heritage.
As part of Newarkâs High Street Heritage Action Zone project, funded by Historic England, a three-year cultural programme called Newark Creates has been launched.
It has been developed by Newark and Sherwood District Council and Inspire.

âThis is a great initiative to truly interpret the townâs history and heritage through cultural activities for people of all ages to enjoy,â said council leader David Lloyd.
HOLLIDAYSBURG Blair County’s incumbent prothonotary is seeking a second four-year term in office.
Robin Patton, 59, of Hollidaysburg, who won the post four years ago and succeeded longtime Prothonotary Carol Newman, announced her candidacy Wednesday for the Republican nomination in the May 18 primary.
“Over the years, from my time as an entry level clerk-typist to your elected prothonotary, I have gained the knowledge of the Pennsylvania Rules of Civil and Criminal Procedures, while keeping up with the ever-changing laws that govern the office,” Patton told a group of 40 attending her campaign kick-off at the Allegheny Creamery and Crepes.
The group, including current and former county officials, office staff members and paralegals who use the office, were among those cheering for Patton.
The Green family, which owned The Inn of Rosslyn and the Americana Hotel in Crystal City the sale of which was previously reported has sold both hotels to developer JBG Smith before the new year, according to one family member. The family also sold two apartment buildings: Fern Gardens and Williamsburg Apartments.
“The whole COVID-19 thing has basically bankrupted our businesses,” Katherine Green, whose father built the hotel in 1957, told ARLnow. “There was no other option. There was no end in sight.”
Business looked good, pre-coronavirus. The hotels were generating income, and the general manager of The Americana told Washington Business Journal that 2017 was its best year. But when the economy crashed, Green said she had no income from April 1 until mid-December. (The County records the sales on Dec. 18.) She said a small business loan covered payroll for a few months, but the siblings still emptied their bank accounts to keep the hotels open for a paltry 10% occupan
