New home construction in Mira Mesa sparks massive interest

SAN DIEGO Construction is well underway into the first phase of the 3Roots project in Mira Mesa. Once complete, the new community will boast modern amenities to serve the 1,800 new homes and acres of new park spaces.
The first 200 homes will begin presale next month and have spurred the interest of more than 14,000 people.
“A year from now you’ll look at this and a lot of the landscaping will be in, the streets will be in, we’ll actually have closings by the end of this year with families moving and starting their lives with 3Roots, which we’re very, very excited about,” said Robby Thorne, CEO of California West Communities.
Suspect arrested after striking victim during illegal drifting contest

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) San Diego Police arrested the suspect accused of seriously injuring a woman in a hit-and-run crash on February 13.
According to police, the 25-year-old woman was watching an illegal street drifting contest near Carrol Canyon Road and Scranton Road when she was hit by one of the vehicles. The driver left the scene before police arrived.
The suspect, Liam Patrick OâConnor was arrested on February 21 at his home on the 7000 block of Whipple Avenue.
He was booked into jail for felony hit and run as well as reckless driving.

Investigators have arrested a driver suspected of fleeing after hitting and severely injuring a pedestrian earlier this month during an “illegal street drifting contest,” authorities said Tuesday.
The crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 13 as the driver was doing “doughnuts” near a large crowd at Carroll Canyon Road and Scranton Road, according to San Diego police traffic Sgt. Victoria Houseman. Police said the 25-year-old victim was standing with the crowd watching the car spin when it swerved into a wide turn. Onlookers moved to avoid being hit, but the woman was unable to get out of the way, Officer Robert Heims said.
A 69-year-old man was behind bars today on suspicion of driving drunk and killing a highway worker on state Route 94 in Jamul, the highway patrol reported.
