The Task and Finish group comprises of the Chairman of Community Committee, who sits as chairman, and four members. In a lively meeting last week, councillors voted 10 to two in favour of the motion with one abstention. Priory Ward councillor and member of the Climate Change Task Group Michael Tarling said: “The Climate Emergency declaration sets out a net zero carbon target to align with BCP Councils aspirations. “The council has committed to switching to a zero-carbon energy supplier, to start monitoring CO2 emissions as a result of the Councils activities and to consider the environment and carbon emissions in all its decision making, including Planning decisions including the new Neighbourhood Plan, Community projects and purchasing.”

Why does the city again choose one of the lowest-paid groups of employees to privatize and present this decision as if this will improve efficiencies, save us money and then scare us with otherwise having to raise property taxes. This is hokum and we are tired of it. The most current similar rationale was the aides in long-term care facilities and we still are dealing with that disastrous management decision.
Another former elected member of Christchurch council, she has lived in the Commons ward for 15 years. She works in a specialist school for children with social, emotional and mental health problems and said she is “passionate” about improving the futures for younger generations. Her priorities include preventing “inappropriate” and green belt development, improving transport links and said she would give Christchurch residents “more say” in policy.
Peter Stokes - Labour Christchurch born, he is retired after a 36-year career in the oil and gas drilling industry and stood as the Labour candidate in the 2013 local and 2015 general elections. He said he is “greatly concerned” with the amount of affordable and social housing in the area and said less emphasis needed to be put on building retirement homes in favour of new family housing and has called for an increase in bus services in the area.
