Shirley Casey Briggs

Mrs. Shirley Casey Briggs went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 8, 2021. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, E. Ridley Briggs; four children, Cathy Stringer, Carol and Bruce Dunai, David and Lisa Briggs and Danny and Kim Briggs; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Shirley was born on Aug. 13, 1935, in Marlin, Texas, in the home of her mother and father, Anna Catherine Beck Casey and Fred Franklin Casey. Shirley had three older brothers who preceded her in death, James Edward Casey, Glen Allen Casey and Robert Ray Casey. Her aunt, Buelah Mae Casey Wolfe, used to tell her how happy and excited all of the relatives were that day because Anna and Fred finally had a baby girl.

He’s a former newsman, having put in time with the Toledo Blade and, more recently, with his wife “spook” editing a weekly in the Dakotas. First newsman I ever saw went into something as remote from news as raising turkeys.

Robert Thomas “Bob” Buriak, of Renovo, died Feb. 16, 2021 of natural causes. Bob was born Dec. 21, 1942, as the younger brother of John Buriak Jr., the sons of Irene and John Buriak Sr. of Ford City. He was preceded in death in 2003 by his wife, his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Carol Jean (Walbert) Buriak. Bob found his early passions in the sport of gridiron football under the Friday night lights, an association that would go on to shape his life, even meeting his wife, a majorette in the marching band. Bob obtained his teaching credentials attending Xavier University and Clarion University, where he played college ball and was drafted by the semi-professional Wheeling Ironmen of West Virginia of the Continental Football League.
