STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Ranti Ogunleye has a famous last name, but has also built a name for himself through his lifetime of work on the North Shore.
His brother, Adewale, made his name on the gridiron playing as a defensive end for the Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, and Houston Texans. Ranti, on the other hand, made his name in the community through his activism and work as an educator.

ASSEMBLYMAN FALL MAKES MAYORAL PICKS
New York Assemblyman Charles Fall (D-North Shore) made his voice heard Friday in the crowded mayoral Democratic Primary race offering a co-endorsement to Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and former Director of the federal Office of Management and Budget Shaun Donovan.
Petition challenge knocks Diakhate off North Shore City Council ballot

Diakhate’s campaign said Siaka Blake and Manuel Ortega, Richards’ campaign attorney, made the formal objections.
“Petitioning during a pandemic is dangerous for the petitioners and those signing, which is why relatively few candidates citywide were challenged this year,” said Diakhate. “None of my other opponents’ petitions were questioned.”
He believes his signatures were challenged because he and Richards were both competing for the African immigrant vote.
Late Brother’s Pizza owner is honored after being denied street renaming

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Sunlight spilled through the windows of the Brother’s Pizza dining room as staff ladled pinwheels of sauce on dough and sliced bubbling, hot Sicilian pies into squares.
It was a typical Saturday afternoon in Port Richmond with which the late Bart Giove, one of Brother’s founders, would be familiar. Except on this particular afternoon, neighbors and state Sen. Diane J. Savino visited the parlor to memorialize the business owner and present his family with a New York State proclamation.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. In a crowded Democratic primary field for the North Shore’s City Council seat, career educator, Troy McGhie, thinks he’s the right candidate for the job.
McGhie has worked as a Department of Education teacher for more than 20 years, and currently teaches special-education students at Curtis High School, where he also serves as the boys junior varsity basketball coach.
