On Monday, Emirates Marine Environmental Group (EMEG) and Procter & Gamble inaugurated what is soon to be a lush green haven along the desert coastline of Dubai.
Dubai Mangrove Forest is located at the Jebel Ali Wildlife Sanctuary. According to an official statement, the location is a United Nations protected reserve that is being managed by EMEG and has been included in the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance.
The initiative is in line with Dubai s plan for more than half the city to be transformed into natural reserves by 2040. It has also been developed in collaboration with The Storey Group and EcoMatcher which launched the One Billion Trees Initiative this year.

Two sisters who attend Spencer Elementary School have been announced as the winners of the Brighton Area Schoolsâ âLove Your Pet Dayâ promotion.
Over 100 students âfrom Tot Spot to 8th gradeâ participated in the contest, in which the winner will get to spend a class day with Buckley, one of the school districtâs âPack of Dogsâ.
The winners were announced Tuesday by Karen Storey, a Brighton special education teacher who founded and directs the districtâs much-emulated Pack of Dogs program. The contest took place in conjunction with the national âLove Your Pet Dayâ promotion, which was held last weekend. The school contest was based on students submitting a photo of themselves with their dog, the panel basing its selection of the winner on the best photo.
The UAE’s The Storey Group (TSG) has launched an ambitious initiative to encourage Emirati residents and corporates to come together to help plant 1 billion trees globally by 2026 in a transformational project designed to help offset the country’s carbon emissions.
After almost two years of intense research and development, TSG has teamed up with EcoMatcher, a certified social enterprise and the world’s first blockchain-enabled digital tree-planting platform, to launch the One Billion Trees Initiative (OBTI), which is aimed at capturing 250 billion kgs of carbon within a decade of planting the full tree complement.
“The world produces 51 billion tons of greenhouse gases every year. Decarbonization is now the biggest challenge facing humanity. To reach zero, we need innovation, collaboration, and action. By helping to plant 1 billion trees by 2026, the UAE can play our part,” said Karen Storey, OBTI founder and project director.

When Matthew Outlaw took over as superintendent of the Brighton Area Schools in early November, he challenged the staff, students and families to find ways to be grateful and gracious.
While Outlaw designated November as a month to be thankful, December was dedicated to a spirit of generosity. From the results, it would seem that everybody rose to the challenge. School district staff and families donated their time to volunteer for the Salvation Army Bell Ringing program at Kroger and Buschâs in Brighton, raising $1,803 in 18 hours, with 18 volunteers. The four elementary schools: Hawkins, Hilton, Hornung and Spencer, in partnership with Brighton Ford, collected 2,500 toys to give to children in need.
