New Portsmouth, NH skate park gets support from City Council

PORTSMOUTH Thanks in large part to the efforts of a small group of high school students, Portsmouth may soon see a new skate park at the city stump dump. Portsmouth High School seniors Seamus Durkin and Oliver Sieve worked with City Councilor Esther Kennedy and others to help win support for a new skate park. Those efforts – which were helped by City Councilor Deglan McEachern and longtime skateboard enthusiast Dave Cosgrove – led to an endorsement of the idea by the City Council Monday. The council unanimously approved a motion for City Manager Karen Conard to put out a request for proposals (RFP) to build and pay for a skate park and recreation field at the stump dump, which is located off Route 33.

Kittredge: Why is Portsmouth staff siding with developers over taxpayers? Clare Kittredge When 150 upset neighbors and residents show up en masse to voice their displeasure with a development project as they did last Saturday on the banks of the North Mill Pond, yet Portsmouth’s city planning staffers enthusiastically advocate for the project, something is wrong. So I found it shocking to watch Portsmouth city planning staffers openly campaign this week (April 15) for the Planning Board to grant a massive North Mill Pond development a special exception to encroach on the city’s vanishing 100 foot wetland buffer.

Portsmouth NH pay-for-parking app ParkMobile hit with security breach

PORTSMOUTH – The city announced Friday a security breach in ParkMobile, the app available to pay for parking downtown. Information about the apps users, such as license plate numbers and email addresses, and partial information about passwords, was accessed in the breach, according to the city s announcement. The city stated credit card information was not accessed. Portsmouth s Friday, April 16 announcement indicates city officials just received notification of the breach, though ParkMobile discovered it March 26. Portsmouth s announcement states on that date ParkMobile became aware of the breach linked to a vulnerability in its designers  software. In response, ParkMobile immediately launched an investigation with the assistance of a leading cybersecurity firm to address the incident, according to Portsmouth s announcement.
