Kittredge: Why is Portsmouth staff siding with developers over taxpayers?
Clare Kittredge
When 150 upset neighbors and residents show up en masse to voice their displeasure with a development project as they did last Saturday on the banks of the North Mill Pond, yet Portsmouth’s city planning staffers enthusiastically advocate for the project, something is wrong. And these city staffers are not looking out for the best interests of the taxpayers who have strongly expressed their views. So I found it shocking to watch Portsmouth city planning staffers openly campaign this week (April 15) for the Planning Board to grant a massive North Mill Pond development a special exception to encroach on the city’s vanishing 100 foot wetland buffer.
