Retured policeman Phil Brown, who has lived in Guisborough since 1975, donated the devices to the #compsforkids campaign which aims to ensure every schoolchild in Redcar and Cleveland has a laptop or tablet. Dozens have been donated to the community-led campaign spearheaded by Redcar group Ladies of Steel, Marske and New Marske Community Information Group (MNMCIG) and Redcar businessman Ja Reed of EnterIT who has been refurbishing the computers for free.

Jim Krumel: Lima may have a DAD-WOC-GOW-ABA-BAV-WOF in its future

Jim Krumel: Lima may have a DAD-WOC-GOW-ABA-BAV-WOF in its future Jim Krumel Let’s see. What is this new thing Lima City Council is being asked to approve? A “downtown outdoor refreshment area.” Or, DORA, for short. It does sound better than calling it a “designated area downtown where one can go outside with a burger and brew and visit with old friends.” Or, DAD-WOC-GOW-ABA-BAV-WOF, for long. Anyway, Lima’s thinking about getting one of those things. So, what do you think? Downtown Lima Inc. believes this could be the long-awaited magnet to lure people back to the heart of the city. It does sound like fun. And it sure beats the idea pitched way-back-when of building an indoor ice rink to attract the multitudes. Remember that one? If not, don’t worry. It’s best forgotten.

Ugly bar and restaurant outdoor decking given planning approval | Darlington and Stockton Times

A BAR and restaurant has won retrospective change of use permission for an outdoor decking and seating area despite it being described as “ugly” and “sticking out like a sore thumb”. Arran Addison, who runs The Vault, in Marske, east Cleveland, claimed the business once able to trade outside of lockdown measures would not survive without it. The application received 16 representations in support with comments stating it was a “lovely addition” to Marske and would attract more visitors. But 16 objections were also received by Redcar and Cleveland Council which described the decking as an “eyesore”, a “monstrosity” and being “disrespectful” to a next-door funeral parlour, while also blocking access to a pedestrian footpath.

Letter: Snow heroes are special - The Lima News

Letter: Snow heroes are special We have the best snow heroes here in Cairo. They are Thad and Jan Jesko. My husband and I have had a lot of medical problems this year and Thad and Jan have been there for us, clearing our sidewalks of snow, coming and helping us up as we have fallen down several times. Thad saw how much we were having trouble getting up our stairs to the house and asked if we could use a handicap ramp. Within two days Thad had it finished for us. Bless you Thad and Jan you are our Heroes.
